Did You Know? SFSU Fun Facts

30 Oct

planetarium

Did you know? SF State has a planetarium- and it is free to the public! The Charles F. Hager Planetarium, which opened in 1973, is located on the roof of Thornton Hall and can be accessed via the 4th floor. With the Spitz Space Systems 512 planetarium projector, housed in a 26.5 ft (8.1 meter) dome, the planetarium is capable of showing 1,354 stars, the sun, moon, and planets.

You may have had the opportunity to check out the planetarium if you took the general ed class, Astronomy 116. But if you’re not taking any astronomy classes, don’t worry! The planetarium also presents free public shows, usually on Fridays, prepared and presented by staff and graduate students for the campus and surrounding community (donations graciously accepted). Check out the website for more information on how to attend a show: http://www.physics.sfsu.edu/astronomy/planetarium/reservations.html
